The Tweed Run arrives on the island of Spetses once a year as ladies and gents dress up in their finest for a cycle ride down memory lane. Plus fours and Harris tweeds, fair isle jerseys and bonnets are essential attire for the participants, who gather at the Poseidonion Grand Hotel for the beginning of a very sartorial weekend.
Originally founded in London, the event gradually became popular in other locations and now takes place annually in many cities of the world but nowhere as scenic as in the island of the spices. Having as its motto ‘a metropolitan bicycle ride with a bit of style’, the organisers have taken the concept one step further on Spetses. Of course stops for tea and cake are obligatory, with picnic hampers at the ready, but the beauty of the picturesque island adds a whole new meaning to the Tweed Run. The country lanes are filled with jolly cyclists sporting pin curls and caps and if it wasn’t for the aromas of this mediterranean haven, one could be mistaken for thinking that they were witnessing a scene from 1920s England. Various events are organised during this two day event such as a beauty pageant and moustache grooming sessions, all within the majestic ambience of the Poseidonion Grand Hotel.
Join us this year from 22 to 23 April for a true vintage experience of good old fashioned cycling.
