Every year the Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta takes place on the island. Organised by the Yacht Club of Greece and with the support of the Poseidonion Grand Hotel, it is a four day event full of exciting sailing races and a celebration of the naval tradition of the island. Crews from Greece and abroad gather on the island of aromas to partake in what is now one of the largest regattas in the region. The calm straits of the Argosaronic Gulf provide the perfect sailing waters, with the island of Spetses posing a beautiful backdrop to an amazing array of vessels. Classic boats, traditional schooners and lateens compete in their own particular categories throughout the event while spectators arrive on the island from near and far to witness the impressive line up of treasured yachts and their mastery by world class yachting professionals. 
 

The Poseidonion Grand Hotel plays a major part in the regatta, adhering to its commitment of playing a central role in all athletic and social happenings organised on the island of Spetses. Participants of the Spetses Classic Yacht Race enjoy cocktail parties organised at the hotel, which is the major landmark for all throughout the event, with the majestic Poseidonion Square lending itself to the prize giving ceremonies, as well as being the central meeting point. The event is also a tribute to the boat making tradition of Spetses, which continues to this day, and its historical importance in the maritime history of Greece especially during the War of Independence.
